Morocota.
The Origin of Our Name.

Every name, every family, every business, every product has a story. We want to celebrate the origin of our name, and recognize the piece of history of our Continent that it comprises.

The name Morocota was given in the Republic of Venezuela to the 20 Dollar Gold coins that were of common use in the country during most of the secong half of the XIX century.

At the time of the dissolution of Great Colombia (Formerly one country formed by Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador) in 1830, the Republic of Venezuela had no means of having their own money, so, the shortage of coins for trade was solved with the introduction of Gold and Silver coins from other countries, with the most popular and desired being the 20 Dollar Gold coins, called Morocota.

The name comes from the similarity of the shine with the Morocoto, a fish found in the rivers in the tropc, also called Pacu or White Cachama.

The most popular of these gold coins was the Double Eagle that was minted in the USA between 1849 and 1933, with a face value of 20 USD and a weight a little short of 1 Troy Ounce or 31.1034 grams.
